Jean D. Crowther
Biographical Sketch

Jean D. Crowther has combined her knowledge of the writer's art and her needlework skills to provide cross-stitch patterns for the LDS temples and other religious symbols and pictures. Tens of thousands of stitched replicas of her designs hang in homes, chapels, seminaries, offices, and other edifices worldwide. Her temple patterns are published in The New Small Mormon Temples, 10 New Mormon Temples, 13 New Mormon Temples, 14 New Mormon Temples, and in numerous leaflets and kits. She also has designed the symbols and mottos for the LDS auxiliaries in the books Especially for Young Women, Especially for Primary, and Especially for Women, as well as portraits of all the LDS Church presidents in Prophets of the Restoration.
She has adapted the famous drawings of the well-known Christian artists Frances and Richard Hook in Jesus and the Children, A Savior Is Born, Prayer, and Jesus of Nazareth, and also crafted an adaptation of da Vinci's The Last Supper.

In addition, she has served as needlecraft editor for Horizon Publishers in creating 28 cross-stitch books from colored pencil graphs submitted by other designers, as well as producing six general cross-stitch books of her own: Murphy Strikes Again, Country Life, Country Wisdom, Pedigree Patterns, Darling Dinosaurs, and Puppies and Pooches. She is also the author of other books for Latter-day Saints, including What Do I Do Now, Mom?, The Joy of Being a Woman, How To Get Married and Survive it, A Mother's Prayer, Book of Mormon Puzzles and Pictures, Growing Up a Mormon, and The Very First Christmas.

Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona, she attended Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education, with a Music/Art minor. While attending BYU she worked in the libraries for four years and was manager of the University's Reserve Library for one year. She also was a member of the BYU Symphony Orchestra throughout her student years.

Her Church activity includes service as a Ward Relief Society President, Stake Primary President, a Counselor in the Stake Young Womens presidency, Ward Choir Director and a teacher of numerous classes in the Young Women, Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary programs.  She has been Ward chorister and a music leader in various wards and auxiliaries and a participant in ward, stake and regional choirs for many years. She fulfilled an eight-year Church Service mission as a volunteer for the Primary General Board, and she and her husband recently returned from full-time missionary service in the Mexico Mexico City East Mission.

Jean lives in Bountiful, Utah with her husband Duane S. Crowther, also a noted author. They are the parents of a fine family of four sons, four daughters, four daughters-in-law and three sons-in-law. They currently have twenty-five precious grandchildren.
